The Grand Old Party
Occasionally I hear "we need a new and truly conservative party." When that becomes absolutely necessary I'll be the first to join. That time fortunately has not yet come. What we need to do is remind the party of conservatism, exactly who they are. Republicans are the party of Lincoln and Reagan, the party of unity, freedom and constitutional government. Oh and we might consider letting the rest of America know it too!
I'm truly proud of the Republican party for the first time since the days of Ronald Reagan. They stood up to the socialist take over of health care, unsuccessfully thus far, but as a group they stood together and said no. Not one Republican voted for this unbelievable and totally unconstitutional bill in the house of representatives. This unlawful bill was passed and engineered entirely by a now solidly socialistic Democratic Party, in defiance of constitutional process. Perhaps after decades of Rhino Republicans the Grand Old Party has rediscovered it's roots. For Americas sake I hope so.
The Republican party came into being in the mid 1800s in their opposition to slavery. They must oppose slavery again, the slavery of socialism. The "New Left seeks to make slaves of each and every citizen in this great land.
The "Grand Old Party" freed the slaves in a war that saw half a million Americans loose their lives. The debt for the evils of slavery, paid in full and in blood. The Constitution that declared "all men are created equal" had, as intended, finally ended the practice of one man owning another in America. At a time in history when slavery was the norm, the framers of our Constitution paved the way for freedom. The one concession to create our great nation was to ignore temporarily the practice of slavery which was common throughout the world.
The word slave comes from the Slavic, Slav. Slavery was in no way restricted to the Black man in America. Sadly it has been with us throughout history. Indentured servitude was a common way for people to buy passage to the new world. Abolitionists were the revolutionaries of their day. Republicans not Democrats. If you bother to look you'll find it's Democrats who are the slave masters to this day, they just have better press agents.
How many have died on the battlefield to defeat the slavery of Communism and Socialism? How many years did we live under the threat of a nuclear holocaust during the Cold War? The fight has come home. We must fight the battle in the political arena now on our own soil. We must win the war of ideas on our own shores in the land of the free or we shall be free no longer.
The battle began long ago with supposedly compassionate progressive leaders. So under the pretense of doing good for the people, socialist feel good programs were imposed on free Americans. Socialist programs do not work. Socialist and Communist nations fail under the weight of their own corruption, every time. Not one socialist program here in America can be considered anything but a colossal failure. Social Security was signed into law by FDR in 1935 as part of his "New Deal," really the "Raw Deal." I've paid into it all my life, as have most Americans and the program is bankrupt, it is after all nothing but an elaborate ponzi scheme. Some 30 years later Lyndon Johnson ushered in the age of "The Great Society" creating the welfare state. Designed to eliminate poverty it has done the exact opposite. Not only has it vastly expanded poverty, it has destroyed the family structure of the poor in our society, especially the black community who are ironically the descendants of slaves.
Rather than empower the poor with hope, freedom and opportunity they have been used as a pawns to expand the socialist agenda. Slaves to the government, begging for a hand out from the country they blame for their misfortune. Few seek a higher education. Most are born into one parent homes. The numbers involved in crime and drugs is staggering, our jails are filled to overflowing with the sons and daughters of broken homes. Socialism has destroyed their families. What do our brilliant liberal leaders suggest as a cure for this dilemma? A focus on education, trade schools, the entrepreneur, no they offer more social programs and class warfare.
The indigenous poor can not compete with immigrants who do not even speak the language because they have not been taught the American dream. Never having personally been denied their freedom they have no conception of the opportunity and blessings they posses being free born Americans. People from all over the world who have been denied their freedom understand the American dream.
Liberal Democrats keep the poor in velvet chains, educate them with social studies rather than history then buy their votes with welfare programs. An entire class of Americans has been taught to have contempt for their country and it's system of government, the only system of government in history to offer real freedom to the individual. They have been taught to blame the rich for their own lack, to hate their country and the freedom it represents. As a result they are not in a position to attain riches for themselves, instead they wait for their new master, the government, to give them their meager portion.
The only
sane and sure way out of this slow and steady rotting of our society
is less social programs, less government. We need to return to the
principles set forth in our Constitution. Return power to
the individual. Let each man solve his own problems rather
than appeal to the government, which inevitably creates more
problems. What do our liberal leaders do, cut taxes and grow the
private sector in order to provide jobs? No they raise taxes and grow
government. There is no logic, understanding or compassion in growing
government at the expense of the people, at the expense of freedom, ultimately at the expense of the nation.
The job of the Government is to get out of the way of a robust economy. Less taxes, less regulation, less control. Only a robust economy and opportunity can lift up those at the bottom of our society by allowing them the freedom to lift themselves up.
We must now choose to believe in the people or in the politician. Liberals believe that less than a thousand politicians and judges in Washington are more capable of solving the problems of 300 million people, than the people themselves. Pure arrogance! When you give up your problems to another, for a solution, you give up your freedom as well.
The Grand Old Party must once again be the party to end slavery. The chains are real, perhaps the most horrible chains of all. Chains that enslaves the mind and soul, the slavery of socialism. It won't be easy or quick and must be done in the political arena but it's certainly no harder than ending slavery with a civil war.
